Baumüller now offering EMS services
Nuremberg, Germany. In Germany, Electronic Manufacturing
Service (EMS) is a growth industry for medium-sized customers,
especially for small and medium batch sizes. High-quality
services, short communication channels and close personal
support, in particular, are of great importance.
Baumüller Nürnberg GmbH is now utilizing its many
years of expertise in the field of electronics development
and production and expanding its offerings to include EMS
services.
Baumüller produces equipment using Surface-Mounted Device
technology (SMD) and Through-Hole Technology (THT) in accordance
with IPC-A-610 and is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000.
Main areas of experience include power and control technology,
small and mid-sized mass production, prototype population
and spare parts procurement.
SMD production and push-through mounting
Each PCB has its own serial number, either etched with a
laser or printed on a label. The SMD process chain starts
with the printing of soldering paste on the PCBs. High-precision
lasered soldering paste templates and state-of-the-art fully-automatic
equipment are used. Paste application is checked by an integrated
camera. As a supplement to SMT, push-through mounting is still
an important part of PCB production. The components are populated
mechanically with automatic THT equipment or manually at our
light pointer tables. The assemblies are then soldered in
a wave soldering system or a selective soldering unit in a
protective gas atmosphere.
Checking and final assembly
Continual quality control by a powerful fully-automatic AOI
system (Automatic Optical Inspection) for SMD population is
integrated in the process. This automatic optical inspection
is essential for the desired zero-defect production. It is
used to identify and document incorrect populations and soldering
or poorly positioned components. Depending on the customer’s
wishes and the agreement, Baumüller provides a final
in-circuit test, burn-in test or operational test for the
assemblies produced. The operational and endurance tests carried
out with test adapters and electronics rule out just about
any malfunctions over the lifetime of the systems. Assemblies
can be joined to form complete units during production. State-of-the-art
screwdriver technologies with user-guided interfaces are the
foundation of zero-defect production here.
Lower costs with EMS
Electronic Manufacturing Services cover all the commissioned
work of electronic assemblies, devices and systems, from development
to PCB population to polished test concepts and worldwide
delivery. In addition, EMS is a method of outsourcing, where
parts of production can be outsourced to lower costs so that
you can concentrate on developing new products, marketing
and sales.
