| Securing growth markets
– Nr. 1/2012 (19.1.2012)
Baumuller India Pvt. Ltd. moves into new business premises
Nuremberg. In addition to China, India plays
a very special role with the drive and automation solution
manufacturer Baumüller. The company has had a presence
in the South Asian state for the last eight years and is continuously
expanding its activities in this growth market. Based on political
developments in the country, particularly rapid development
is expected in the plastics sector.
India and China, grouped together, made a significant contribution
in 2010 to the turnover of the company with its headquarters
in Nuremberg. In addition to sales and marketing of the Baumüller
products and solutions, the Indian subsidiary primarily offers
services in the fields of installation, assembly and relocation
of machines.
Jochen Loy, Director of the Board in India and Managing Director
of Baumüller Holding explains: "The number of our
employees continues to increase and, for this reason, we moved
into new business premises. Here we have unified the previously
separate departments of sales and after sales. “Atul
Dave, Managing Director of Baumuller India Pvt. Ltd explains:
"Alongside the offices in the headquarters in the Indian
machine manufacturing centre at Pune, we will soon be establishing
several branches near to our customers to ensure optimum service
provision."
The Indian section of the Baumüller Group will be mentoring
customers of the German parent company on the road into the
Asian market, will be expanding business with established
local customers, and will be making a contribution to acquisition
of new customers in neighbouring countries.
Plastics - the growth market
Alongside the packaging, textile and printing industries,
the plastics industry is of particular interest to Baumuller
India. In India at the present time, only around half of the
perishable foodstuffs reach the
population. In order to counteract this unfortunate state
of affairs and to increase the percentage of consumed foodstuffs
to 70 percent, the Indian Government is now promoting more
efficient use of foodstuffs. A particularly important point
in this is the packaging of the foodstuffs before transport,
storage and sale. Since most of the foodstuff packaging is
made of plastic theses days, we expect an enormous increase
in demand for plastics over the coming months. "At the
present time, the consumption of plastic per head of population
is only around 16 percent of Chinese and only 5.5 percent
of Brazilian consumption", says Atul Dave, "and
since we do 40 percent of our business in this sector of industry,
we expect enormous growth in the coming years".
