Precision and Intelligent Overall Concepts

Baumüller exhibits possibilities for production optimization as well as components and systems at Automatica 2018

From June 19-22 at Automatica in Munich in hall B6 at stand 303, Baumüller, the specialist for drive technology and automatization, is exhibiting how robotic and handling systems with complete packages can be easily implemented and how robots can be intelligently and safely networked.

At Automatica, the Baumüller experts will explain how complete system modules can be used to quickly realize robotic applications as well as various multi-axis kinematics, such as from the metalworking and forming industries, without any unnecessary programming effort. With a wide offering of controllers and motors, Baumüller has the right hardware for all types of applications, from high-precision to dynamic. Supplemented by the control technology and pre-programmed software components, the mechanical engineer receives a coherent and customer-specific total package. The systems impress with short commissioning times and quick time-to-market and can be networked with BAUDIS IoT, the Industry 4.0 tool from Baumüller, for intelligent maintenance and for maximum process quality.

Networking for Process Optimization and Predictive Maintenance

BAUDIS IoT runs on industrial PCs or on the retrofittable BAUDIS IoT box and is therefore suitable for both greenfield and brownfield systems. The task of BAUDIS IoT is to generate data for further transfer and for analysis locally at the operator's location or remotely via the cloud. The interface of choice for transmitting data to the cloud at Baumüller is OPC UA, but other interfaces can be chosen.Baudis CloosBAUDIS IoT is the Baumüller solution for process optimization and predictive maintenance and can be used cloud-based or locally
BAUDIS IoT is designed for two application scenarios: one for reducing downtimes from unplanned service cases and one for optimizing processes and machine utilization. Data is recorded by local sensors, e.g. on the drive or also by access to other electrical or mechanical components. The data can be evaluated directly at the operator's location or can be transferred into the cloud.

Secure Remote Maintenance according to the BSI Standard

Baumüller offers a solution for secure remote access to machines and systems with Ubiquity, one of the first software packages in industrial remote maintenance that has been certified according to 62443-3-3 and that therefore corresponds to the requirements of the basic protection catalog of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). With Ubiquity, Baumüller allows for a secure and simple access to machines around the world that does not require any separate hardware.

Precision in the Drive

On the hardware side, the Nuremberg-based company is introducing, among other items, the multi-axis controller b maXX 5800, in which the user can integrate up to six axes. It is particularly worth using the device: in robotics and handling applications that require a high level of compactness. The user has absolute flexibility when selecting the performances of each individual axis so that the optimal version can be compiled for the respective application. This avoids a costly oversizing. By combining several axes in one device, the fieldbus dead times are thus eliminated and a highly synchronous communication in the controller cycle at 62.5 µs is thus possible.
For small outputs, Baumüller is exhibiting its compact servo-controller b maXX 3300 with integrated position control for the low power range of 0.75 kW to 5.0 kW. It is characterized by its compactness and space-saving building type and a high level of precision and dynamics.

The new high-precision servomotor DSH1 with an extremely low cogging torque can also impress when it comes to precision. These motors thus achieve an extremely high control quality, especially in connection with the Baumüller drive electronics. Combined with speeds of up to 5,000 rpm, the DSH1 are thus the optimal solution for applications with high requirements for precision and dynamics.
