High throughput shredders with high-torque drive

Baumüller presents its broad-based shredder drive systems at the IFAT and Ecomondo and invites you to take part in the live webinar

IFAT, the world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage waste, and raw materials management, will be held in Munich from May 13 thru 17, 2024. For the first time ever, Baumüller, the drive and automation specialist will be taking part together with Nidec DESCH Antriebstechnik GmbH & Co. KG. In Hall B5, Stand 208, the Baumüller experts will seek to exchange ideas and information with the manufacturers of recycling machines, and visitors can find out, for example, how energy and machine efficiency can be increased by a fully-electric shredder drive. At its stand, Baumüller will also be presenting a DST2 high-torque motor and a b maXX 5500 servo drive suitable for shredder drives. At the end of the year, Baumüller will then again be an exhibitor at the Ecomondo 2024, which will be held from November 5 thru 8, 2024 in Rimini (Italy).

Baumüller offers a complete system for the shredder drive: Thanks to the perfect interaction of converter and motor, the rotor is able to set exact cuts – for optimal results

On April 15, 2024, Baumüller will be holding a free live webinar together with the experts for customized gear and clutch technology, Nidec DESCH Antriebstechnik GmbH & Co. KG. In the 30-minute webinar, participants will find out about the advantages of a fully-electric system solution made up of high-torque motors, gear, and clutch, and how the drive system can be integrated into the existing machine architecture.

Up to 30 percent lower energy costs thanks to direct drive technology

The most important criteria for recycling machines (shredders) are high machine availability and high throughput with the lowest possible energy consumption. Baumüller has already implemented various drive solutions of single shaft and twin shaft shredders with or without feeding. As a specialist for electric drives with high performance, Baumüller offers high-torque electric drives that enable a reduction in the energy consumption of the shredders by up to 30 percent.

The Baumüller system solution includes the complete main drive system with high-torque motors, servo converters, including control cabinet construction, as well as the control technology with hardware and an extensive complete software package specially for shredder machines. The drive unit is configured individually depending on the required power. In addition to hardware and software, Baumüller also provides engineering support, and implements the complete drive, machine control and software, completely as requested. Baumüller also offers optional long-term life cycle management for shredders that is individually customized. Upon request, Baumüller also provides worldwide installation and commissioning support.

Live on site at the IFAT and Ecomondo: The water-cooled b maXX 5500 mono units are compact, space-saving and powerful

Precisely tailored to our customers: Powerful hardware for more power

In order to provide the high power required for shredding processes, depending on the gear ratio, motors with very high maximum torques are used. The Baumüller DST2 series high-torque motors are therefore predestined for this application. The shredder shafts are each driven by one or two motors, depending on the power requirements.

With the b maXX 5000 converter family, Baumüller also offers suitable servo drives for high power classes. The servo drives have impressively compact installation dimensions, and are therefore space-saving and powerful.

Baumüller can also supply the right drive system for large shredding systems, such as car shredders. Thanks to the modular b maXX 5500 drive electronics, with the help of multiple-winding systems, even the largest motors of the DST2 series can be used and combined to form multi-motor solutions.

On the control level, with the b maXX PLC mc control platform, Baumüller combines the features of industrial PCs and PLC control units, thereby optimally covering the area between these two existing solutions. The system has convincingly handy dimensions of 110 x 90 x 35 mm and is therefore extremely compact. Baumüller offers suitable HMI panels with touch display for user-friendly machine operation.

Live webinar:

Powerful and energy-efficient – the fully-electric shredder drive

High peak and nominal torques. Special motor design. Perfectly matched drive train. These are only three of the shredder drive requirements that shredder manufacturers must meet. A fully-electric system solution offers all this and, thanks to the omission of the hydraulic drive, also achieves higher energy efficiency, has fewer wearing parts and the machine requires no hydraulic oil.
In the live webinar: “Strong together! Powerful and energy-efficient - the fully-electric system solution for your shredder drive”, Marc Hermanns, Forming/Recycling Industry Manager at Baumüller and Richard Schmitz, Business Development at Nidec DESCH Antriebstechnik GmbH & Co. KG talk about the advantages and what other benefits this solution provides. The 30-minute online webinar will be held on April 15, in German and in English, at three times and is aimed at the manufacturers of recycling machines.
